This medium to large tree doesn't typically get much taller than 50' but has been recorded growing up to 80' tall. It tolerates a wide range of soil, sun, and moisture conditions, however, it will produce the best with at least part sun and rich, moist soil. The edible fruits emerge from female plants in the fall, typically ripe around the time of out first frost. A male and female tree are required for pollination, our trees are too young to be sexed. The tree is a host species for many of our native butterflies and moths. The fruit are sought out by many species of birds as well as a variety of mammals ranging from chipmunks to deer to bear.
