This low growing evergreen shrub is where your favorite Thanksgiving dish orginated. Not typically getting any taller than a few feet, it grows across the ground as a vinelike ground cover. The plant requires very acidic soils, full to part sun, and plenty of moisture. In our region, it's best to keep it moist and protected from afternoon sun. The pretty pink flowers emerge in late spring and summer, turning into the edible tart fruit that we love in the fall. You'll have to get to the berries quick, as you'll be attracting all kinds of wildlife to them. The flowers attract many pollinators, as well as a few specialized bees.
