Hazelnut is a large shrub that can grow to be about 12' tall. Although it will grow in a wide range of conditions, it produces the most nuts when planted in full sun. The edible nuts are ready to be harvested in late summer through early fall. Get to them quickly, nearly every bird and mammal is racing to get them before you. It is also a host species to many different caterpillars.
Native throughout most of NC. Click to view its range in North Carolina.
