This medium sized tree rarely gets over 50 feet tall and 40 feet wide. This hardy tree can grow in a wide range of conditions, from full sun to full shade, moist to dry soils, and various soil compositions. However, the female trees fruit best with full sun and good moisture. Yes, it produces an edible berry that is absolutely delicious! You don't have to worry about fighting the squirrels and birds for them, as they are heavy producers in the right location. The flowers that emerge in April and May also attract a large range of pollinators, as well as many caterpillars use the tree as a host.
