The large evergreen tree can grow to be 100 feet tall and 40 feet wide. It grows best in full sun to part shade in moist to dry, but well drained soils. It is a host species to many caterpillars, including the beautiful Imperial Moth. This tree was once more wide spread, but due to logging practices, is much less common. It is a Keystone Species!
