This medium sized tree typically only gets to be 60 feet tall and 40 feet wide in our area. Growing best in full sun and in soils with high organic matter, it will tolerate dry and wet soils and grow in a wide pH range. It's small white flowers bloom April through May and are a great nectar source for many pollinators. As it matures, it's exfoliating flaky bark and visibile lenticles bring winter interest. Black Cherry is a Keystone species that is a host to 340+ species of caterpillars. The dark red berries attract a wide range of birds and mammals.
