This small deciduous tree can grow to be about 20' tall. Growing best is part sun, it tolerates a wide range of soil conditions but does not tolerate drought or soaking soils. The unique pink flowers grow directly on the stems before the leaves emerge in early spring. These flowers are inportant to early pollinators and a wide range of animals consume the flowers and seeds. The leaves of this tree are a preferred nesting material for leafcutter bees and you'll often see semi circles cut out of them.
