Spicebush is a shrub that can get to 12 feet in height. It really only grows best in understory conditions of dappled light or part sun. Tolerating a wide range of soil conditions as long as it's moist or wet. Its cute little yellow flowers emerge in early spring before the foliage. Most commonly know to be a host plant for Spicebush Swallowtail, but a host for many others. Birds and mammals consume the red berries in early fall.
