This large evergreen shrub can reach 20' in height can be be maintained in standard tree form if desired. This hardy plant is tolerant of any and all soil and light conditions, but does best with at least mostly sun and moist conditions. It is a host plant for the Red-banded Hairstreak butterfly, as well as being an excellent nectar source for pollinators and providing berries to birds through some colder months. Crushing the leaves provides a distinct and pleasent scent.
