This low growing shrub grows to be about 3 feet tall, but can spread to be 10 feet wide from root suckers. Growing best in dappled light to part shade, in acidic well drained soils. It can tolerate temporary wet or dry conditions, but prefers it to be consistantly moist. It tiny purple flowers bloom March through May on panicles that can get to be 8" long. The small golden fruit are fed on by birds May - June. This clumping plant is great for erosion control.
